HISTORY OF PHEK
The Palomino Horse Breeders of America began in 1941. The first APA charter was awarded to the Texas Palomino Exhibitors Association in 1942. The second APA charter was awarded to the Palomino Horse Breeders of Kansas in 1942. The PHBA celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2016. Kansas is proud of their rich history as they honored their 75th anniversary in 2017 and their 80th year in 2022.
The PHBA Executive Board established in 1941 included: President WB Mitchell, Marfa, TX; Vice President Chester R. Upham, Pacific Palisades, CA; Secretary/Treasurer Dr. H. Authur Zappe, Mineral Wells, TX.
1942-1947: Archie Adams Jr., Wichita, KS would represent us on the board as Vice President in 1942-1945 and as President 1946-1947.
1947: E.J. Gordon, Wichita, KS was elected to the board as Vice President.
C.A. Cofer, Wichita, KS served on the board as Vice President 1972-1979 and was elected as President in 1980.
William Morand, Hutchinson, KS was elected to the board as Vice President 1981-1982.
Dr. Bonnie Beaver, College Station, TX was the first woman to serve as PHBA President in 1989.
Tom Craun, Basehor, KS was elected to serve as an Executive Board member 2015-2016.

Gail Craun, Basehor, KS was elected to the board 1989-2000; Reporter 2000-2001; Secretary 2001-2002; Vice President 2002-2004; President-Elected 2004-2005; President 2005-2006; Past President 2006-2007 and advisor board 2016.
Verdon Dubois, Paola, KS was elected to the board 2001-2003; Reporter 2003-2004; Secretary 2004-2005; Vice President 2005-2006.
Shelley Rystrom was elected to the board as an Appointee 2015-2016; Treasurer 2016-2017.
Abby Janssen was elected to the board as an Appointee 2016-2017.
